I have come back from a great time during summer in Denmark catching up with family and friends.
My stay also included a residency at the Erik Nyholm ceramic studio situated in the beautiful countryside near Silkeborg.
There I worked on new ideas inspired by the surrounds and legacy of the place.I intend to further develop this work and hope to show it next year.
Being November the yearly Pottery Expo at Federation Square is taking place in The Atrium on sunday the 9th from 10am to 5.30pm.

The Old Castlemaine Goal...
... is the venue for the 'Ann Geroe Acquisitive Ceramics Award' included in the 2007 Castlemaine State Festival. Lene's piece 'Contour' is one of 19 ceramic works which have been selected, with the announcement of the award being made on Saturday 31 March at 3.30pm.Exhibition dates are 30March-8 April.

Lene was the happy recipient of the 2006 Ceramics Victoria biennial Sculpture Award ($1000) at the 'Tactonics' Exhibition.
The judge was David Hurlston, Curator, Australian Art Exhibitions National Gallery of Victoria, who commented on the excellent standard of works in the exhibition.

'Going north'......
... to Brisbane Queensland where 'Gallery 159' will host a group exhibition titled 'Ceramics Victoria on Show'. This is part of 'Verge 11th National Ceramic Conference 2006' which will take place at The Brisbane Convention Center from 10th - 14th of July.

Lene's recent works from the 'Kontrast' series are filling the windows at 'Wilkins and Kent', furniture and design shop for the month of April.
There are large vessels, bowls, jugs and beakers decorated in four bold patterns : 'Curves' , 'Trigona', 'Band' and 'Orbis'.

It is now twenty years ago that Lene made her first australian pots at 'Pigtale Pottery' further along Brunswick St.

'Impressed' in New Delhi.....
This is the Victorian Ceramic Group's first overseas exhibition featuring 25 members selected works shown at Gallery Twentyfive and hosted by the Delhi Blue Pottery Trust. Lene has three 'Curve' pieces in the show. The event is part of a program of ongoing cultural exchanges and connections between ceramic groups and individual potters in India and Victoria.
The dates are 17th to 30th March if you should happen to be visiting New Delhi.

On the riverbank.....
Every year more than 30 ceramists display their work for sale at the Warrandyte Pottery Expo during the last weekend of February. Come along for two days of demonstrations, clay activities, music entertainment, food and drinks and for the opportunity of meeting the makers of some of Victorias finest ceramic work.

Lene's 'Dotty Vessel' was selected to be in the La Trobe University Acquisitive Ceramics Award Exhibition showing at the Old Castlemaine Goal. All exhibitions are open until 10th April.

...Can't win them all......The winner of the Banyule Sculpture Award was Teresa Bennet with 'Weaving a Memory' but Lene got to say hello to the Prince and Princess !!

... is one of the sculptures being selected for the Banyule Festival's Old England Hotel Outdoor Sculpture Award and Exhibition.....nice short title that ......
This takes place in the grounds of the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital from 10th March to 28 March (open daily).
The announcement of the Exellence in Sculpture Award of $3000 will happen in the Gallipoli Gardens at 4.00pm on Thursday 10th March.
Lene will be there coming directly from attending the State Reception at Southbank in honour of the Royal Couple Frederik and Mary.They visit Melbourne for a day before travelling to Tasmania.

Back in Melbourne again...
...but it does take a few days before the body and soul get together after the long trip 'downunder'. Hopefully a clean-up in the workshop will make a fresh start to the 'creations' of year 2005.
My work has been selected for the 29th Alice Craft Acquisition to take place in the Araluen Galleries in Alice Springs from 14th May to 4th June.
And the next issue of the food magazine 'Donna Hay' should feature some of the pieces that are for sale in the Craft Victoria shop (31 Flinders Lane, Melbourne)

A Merry Christmas and New Years Greetings to everyone...
... sent from 'the old country'. I am in Denmark to celebrate my parents 50th Wedding anniversary. Here I quite enjoy a cold and dark winter -time and x-mas, though there has not been any snow...yet. Hopefully this stay will inspire some new works once I am back in OZ .

Yes,yes, yes.....
... we DO need rain but it was quite a downpour that tested the determination of visitors and potters at the Pottery Expo.By 2pm on sunday many pots were overflowing and that was the sign to pack up and head home to a warm shower.

The Gold Coast calls...
Ceramist Ted Secombe is the judge for The Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award 2004 and Lene is pleased to have her pieces 'A Curvy Pair' (jug and vessel) selected for this exhibition. It is shown at The Gold Coast City Art Gallery in Bundall Queensland from 24th September to 24th October. 88 ceramists from 14 countries hope to win one of the three awards or to have their work acquired for the Permanent Collection. The 2004 Sydney Teapot exhibition ...
... is on for the 16th time, from 30 July to 29 August. The sponsered awards will be given to teapots in these catagories: 'CELEBRITEA ' - 'PERFECTIBILITEA' - 'READING THE TEA LEAVES' - DIVERSITEA' and FEMININITEA' . Lene is entering a pair of 'womanly shaped' teapots titled '14 C Indigo Lace' in this last section.

'Searamica II'...
... is an small exhibition at 'Gallery Claudia-Louise' in Ivanhoe, Melbourne.It is part of 'Winter in Banyule Arts Festival' which takes place from Friday 6 to Sunday 22 August.The pieces on show are inspired by Lenes continuing interest in the colours and shapes of life in the sea. ...is happening in Melbourne from 28 July to 5 August featuring a Design Exhibition at Melbourne Museum awarding a major prize to one of 72 design projects. ‘The Victorian Connection’

30 ceramists from Victoria have been selected to exhibit three works each at Janet Mansfields ‘Ceramic Art Gallery’.
Lene is showing pieces from the ‘Kontrast’ series similar to those featured in the latest issue (no 43/1) of ‘The Journal of Australian Ceramics’
The exhibition runs from July 7th to 30th.

Two of Lenes seaurchin teapots will travel across the seas to be part of an invitational teapot exhibition at Gallery Materia (formerly Joanne Rapp Gallery) in Scottsdale Arizona. This show is part of a bigger arts event titled ‘Summer Spectacular’

‘Liz Davenport’ at no.412 Toorak Rd. (crn. Tintern Ave.) in Toorak from 29th April till 31st May.
In all 90 sculptures will be exhibited in the Toorak Village shop windows for the 2004 festival. Opening function and announcement of three Awards to take place at 6pm Friday 30th April at the Tok H Centre.

More Curves
The exhibition ‘Feminine Lines’ has had a change of direction.This means that a selection of Lene’s work from the ‘Kontrast’ series is now, from March 22nd onwards, on show at ‘Skepsi on Swanston’ .

Chosen Vessel
Lene is exhibiting in ‘Chosen Vessel’ a group show at Manningham Gallery Doncaster Vic.The participating ceramic artists present interesting and varied interpretations of the theme of the vessel.
